Job Description

Summary:

Provides technical and manufacturing support to the Formulation and Process Development Engineers and/or Scientists in the production of pharmaceutical Spray Dried Intermediates (SDI) and Solid Dosage Forms (tablets, capsules, sachets).

Essential Functions:

Assembles, disassembles, operates and cleans process equipment such as spray dryers, tablet presses, mills, roller compactors, fluid beds, and blenders.

Performs routine physical characterization of products. (e.g. powder and tablet characterization)

Documents the formulation and process results in lab notebooks consistent with company policy and good laboratory practices.

Tabulates, documents, and interprets processing data.

Assists in troubleshooting of process-related issues.

Maintains cleanliness of equipment, work areas and facility with assistance of assigned personnel.

Performs general maintenance on research & development (R&D) process and laboratory equipment, as needed.

Organizes and maintains process critical materials and equipment.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in physical science, chemistry, chemical science, material science, engineering, or related field preferred.

Experience:

Two years of technical experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Competencies:

Pharmaceutical formulations and knowledge of solid dosage form unit operations preferred. Hands-on, mechanical ability also preferred. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Effective written and interpersonal skills. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements:

Work setting: formulations and process development of pharmaceutical dosage forms in an R&D laboratory and small-scale manufacturing setting. Position requires frequent standing (up to 8 hours) as well as ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office, laboratory & manufacturing locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of medium to heavy weights of 35-50 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and move for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate laboratory equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
