The Materials Science Unit within Thermo Fisher Scientific provides valuable workflow solutions for materials research and manufacturing. Focal areas are Academic, Government and Industrial markets requiring materials characterization using uCT, SEM, Small Dual Beam and TEM systems with associated analysis capabilities to provide innovative and productive solutions.

The mission of the Business Development Manager is to engage with prospective customers and the MS EM sales, product and business development teams to enable growth of MS EM pipeline in the identified markets and industry verticals.

The Business Development Manager is responsible to market Thermo Fisher Scientific product solutions by creating and executing business development strategies, developing technical market based sales campaigns and maintaining a strong understanding of customer technical requirements for existing and future products. This position promotes long term business opportunities, while supporting short term sales cycles, consistent with the pipeline growth objectives.

Responsibilites:

  • Managing Business Development Pipeline Growth

  • Work with the Sales, Product Marketing Engineers (PMEs) and BU business development teams to define and execute the Annual Operating Plan (AOP)

  • Manage and coordinate cross-BU Synergy initiatives

  • Development and Execution of Marketing Campaigns

  • Manages the regional events list, budget and planning

  • Defines objectives and metrics management for Tier 1-4 trade shows

  • Utilizes MS market trends to optimize the specific market massages for events

  • Works closely with the Outbound Marketing team on web and email campaigns

  • Coordinates with sales force and BU in the promotion of products at trade shows and Synergy events

  • Industrial Campaigns Market Research

  • Market and CRM data analysis to identify new markets

  • Oversees the CRM convergence team activities for market penetration

  • Works with sales to define target companies and specific customers

  • Manage the Regional Product Marketing Engineers (PMEs)

  • Develops sales product collateral per PME sales support objectives

  • PME objective development and reporting

  • Coordinate with the MS BU Business Development Group (BDG)

  • Aligns with the MS BU BDG global initiatives and reporting

  • Represents the Americas with attendance at BDG meetings and events

  • Lead Process

  • Oversight of leads process – management and administration

  • Tracking, Analysis and Reporting

  • Deliver regional competitive intelligence, including information on funding bodies, to the BU for competitive assessment and regional response packages

  • Assess market requirements for MS products in the Americas region and provide feedback on regional market needs to the MS BU product marketing managers and segment directors.

  • Assist product marketing managers developing sales support materials including brochures, applications notes, product data sheets, competitive matrices, and technical presentations.

  • Develop and present training programs to the sales force to drive pipeline development with respect to new products, solution applications, value statements, enhancements, or competitive issues

Minimum Requirements:

Education

Typically requires a university degree, preferably in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering.

Experience

Typically requires 10 year’s business development or sales experience in a related product and market environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel and CRM systems.

  • Excellent, enthusiastic, clear communication skills with a diverse audience is critical to the success of this position

  • Systematic problem solving by working with customers and account team.

  • Presentation skills and creating materials for presentations to internal and external audiences.

  • Ability to work in good cooperation within an account team.

  • Ability to travel to customer sites and factory locally and internationally.

  • Ability to travel both domestically as well as internationally and possession of a valid passport

  • Travel requirement 35 - 50%

  • Miller-Heiman strategic and conceptual selling experience is highly desirable.

  • Experience with TEMs, SEMs, FIBs and/or Dualbeam systems and their associated markets and applications.
