The Sr. Buyer is instrumental in building the Supply Chain Purchasing organization. This individual will be involved in Supply Base rationalization, Supplier sourcing and evaluations, creation of Supplier metrics, i.e. delivery, spend, etc. This role will manage purchasing direct and indirect commodities as required in accordance with customer requirements, quality standards and established inventory levels, negotiating pricing and terms with vendors, and maintain vendor relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform responsibilities in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency, Food & Drug Administration, International Standards Organization and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations

  • Coordinate activities involved with procurement of indirect materials such as equipment, lab supplies, tools and supplies to support the facility and direct materials as requested.

  • Obtain quotations, examine bids and place purchase orders with suppliers to obtain the best price and savings

  • Procure assigned categories with full consideration to:

  • Availability of materials and quality standards

  • Cost

  • Customer requirements

  • Established inventory levels

  • Production scheduling

  • Monitor supplier relationships including delivery performance and quality for indirect materials and take appropriate action to correct unsatisfactory results. Resolve term, credit and payment problems (in conjunction with Accounts Payable)

  • Analyze purchase order reports to identify trends and adjust inventory procurement accordingly

  • Complete and file purchase order paperwork

  • Communicate updated delivery dates and purchasing plan variances to affected parties

  • Identify and plan substitutions of slow moving items

  • Reduce obsolete inventory by recommending and facilitating removal or sale by price reductions, supplier buy backs, etc.

  • Drive and develop new sources of supply

  • Obtain all required approval documentation and assists in qualification of new source

  • Initiate and review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limits

  • Participate in the supplier evaluation program

  • Evaluate suppliers with consideration to product line, quality, reliability, geographic location and price

  • Document data on supplier files via the computer system

  • Correspond tactfully with sources or potential sources of suppliers to overcome any misunderstandings, complaints, etc.

  • Perform responsibilities in compliance with ISO 9000 procedures and work instructions

  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences or other related field, OR three (3) years of equivalent related experience.

  • Five (5) years of purchasing experience

  • Procurement experience utilizing ERP software in a manufacturing environment

  • Excellent written, verbal communication, problem solving and prioritization skills

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

  • Ability to view a situation logically; break it down into manageable tasks and to identify alternative plans of action

  • Good planning, organizational and time use skills enabling management of multiple competing priorities and follow through on all commitments

  • Demonstrated Supplier Management skills

  • Demonstrated negotiation and sourcing skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO/FDA and other regulatory requirements

  • Integrity and objectivity required to make cost effective purchasing decisions

  • Ability to work independently and with others

  • Ability to comprehend and follow written directions

  • Ability to lift between 10-20 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in Biomedical or Life Sciences

  • Experience with SAP
