How Will You Make an Impact?

In this key role, you will manage complex and strategic Capital Expenditure (Capex) projects within the Pharma Services Group of Thermo Fisher Scientific. You will develop partnerships with strategic (local + regional + global) suppliers to determine highest quality, most efficient and flexible providers, to enable us to optimize time to market and ensure strong collaborative innovation. This scope of the role includes equipment, commodities, facilities & engineering services activities.

What will you do?

  • Lead Supplier Relationship Management activities with strategic suppliers (MSA, KPI, regular business reviews, onsite visits…) through highly ethical approach.

  • Coordinate and lead global and strategic initiatives to optimize TCO (obsolete equipment, Maintenance Best practices….) using corporate tools.

  • Develop new sourcing and vendor opportunities including those with emerging countries

  • Track OPEX Value Capture and CAPEX Cost Avoidance generated through all global contracts and Capex projects

  • Develop and manage monthly and quarterly reporting on CAPEX SAVINGS (KPI, Score card…)

  • Attend main exhibitions: Achema, Interpack, Interphex… to sustain relationship and be aware of vendor market innovation.

  • Manage CAPEX forecasts through monthly calls with sites.

  • Negotiate multi-products, multi-sites, multi-BU projects to ensure the best impact and benefits to the sites, the functions and competitive advantage for the business in terms of quality, processes and savings.

  • Develop standard documents for tenders (RFP for Capex – vendors’ evaluation sheet)

  • Identify projects, collect and analyze data, prepare tender process (vendor selection- RFP -analysis evaluation) in multi-products (Sterile, solid and liquids forms…) multi-sites, multi-functions (Purchasing -Engineering – marketing –Production - Quality – EHS Finance)-

  • Impact significantly project efficiency through global approach:

  • Business: secure / enhance lead-times to get earlier revenues and ensure final customer satisfaction + savings + Reliability of equipment and services

  • Quality: simplification of validation and qualification processes of product: choice of equipment and trademark

  • Manufacturing: common standard processes through right trademarks and vendors

  • EHS: compliancy with regulatory and site guidelines

  • Engineering: (standardization – efficiency on methodology and common use of tools and processes)

  • Legal: (commercial laws – equipment and construction law basics is a plus)

  • Engage, Coach & Develop Competitive Procurement Capabilities of Capex COE team members (and non-purchasers).

  • Lead Monthly / quarterly call with sites representatives (engineering + local purchasing) to review Capex projects

  • Lead Monthly call with Global Engineering team to review Corporate projects + quarterly meetings

  • Organize on site meetings on regular basis for CAPEX reviews

How will you get there?


Bachelor’s degree required. MBA a plus


  • Minimum if 5-10 years of related experience

  • Strong procurement experience in the biopharmaceutical industry or manufacturing sector

  • Procurement know-how in the areas of CAPEX and indirect spend, with IT knowledge

  • Strong project management and negotiation skills

  • Multiple language fluency English and second language (e.g. Italian, French) is a plus

  • Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, finance, technology, and Legal groups in an international environment

  • Strong organization skills and with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Capable of working across different geographical demographics and cultures

  • Capable to do financial analysis, planning and analysis as well as summary presentations

  • Project management experience

  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERPs, experience with eProcurment an added plus

  • Experience with Supply Quality Programs

  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)

  • Ability to travel up to 60% on a Global Basis
