Job Description

Summary:

Provides critical support for Validation Services including instrument calibration, troubleshooting, interfacing, repair, and maintenance. Assists in the development and implementation of GLP compliant calibration Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory instrumentation as well as advise laboratory personnel on Instrument purchases.

Essential Functions:

Provides calibration and troubleshooting of complete laboratory instrumentation systems and obtain specialized training as necessary.

Develops SOPs for analytical instrumentation calibration procedures, write technical papers and other documents. Assists in the development of instrumentation service and maintenance procedures.

Coordinates the repair of instrumentation, as necessary with other groups.

Communicates effectively with supervisor to prioritize work, determines assignments and addresses problems effectively.

Performs other assigned tasks.

Education:

Associate’s degree directly related to the position (e.g. Electronics/Electrical, Instrumentation Technology, Engineering, Refrigeration, HVAC, Welding/Metal Fabrication, or other applicable techniccal degree) is required.

Experience:

Two years of industrial experience in the appropriate disciplines (e.g., Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Electrical, Refrigeration, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing/Pipe Fitting, Welding, Production Machine Maintenance, High Pressure Boilers, Pure Water Systems, Utility Systems, Repair and Overhaul, etc.) is preferred.

Equivalency :

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Competencies:

Must be able to recognize abnormal operation of equipment and be able to identify calibration failures based on the limits described on the calibration work order. Must be able to accurately record observations and perform mathematical computations as required by calibration SOPs. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills. Self-starter, mature, independent and dependable. Ability to work in a fast paced environment under pressure, able to multi-task and is results-oriented. Demonstrates ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Effective time management and prioritization skills. Requires discretion and independent judgment. Ability to tolerate stress in a safe manner. Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, manuals and training materials.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 25-50 pounds, occaisonally pushing or pulling 50-100+ pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
