Position Summary

The PPI (Practical Process Improvement) Business System Specialist is responsible for enabling PPI Business System maturity within Commercial operations. Primary focus of the position is to develop PPI Business System capabilities (People, Process, Technology) through train-&-do, coaching and mentoring, and direct support of Priority Projects. The PPI Business System Specialist will work with the Commercial Operations team to drive business process improvements and enable the achievement of long-term Strategic Objectives and annual improvement priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Commercial Operations Team and in alignment with the Divisional PPI Strategy and Roadmap, develop and successfully implement the PPI Business System roadmap.

  • Directly support priority projects, initiatives and programs across the Commercial Operations

  • Work closely with the Commercial Operations leadership team and PPI Business System Lean Core Team to identify ways to accelerate culture change and embed the PPI Business System as a ‘way-of-life’ across the business.

  • Facilitate Strategy Deployment and KPI Leadership processes

  • Develop internal PPI Business System capabilities at all levels of the Commercial Operations organization, directly for the Commercial Operations Leadership team as well as embedded PPI Practitioners whom will extend PPI deeper into the organization.

  • Challenge organizational leaders regularly to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and proliferate PPI throughout the organization.

  • Partner with other PPI Business System Managers across MSD and adjacent Divisions to align and support cross-divisional or cross-functional improvement activity.

  • Conduct train-&-do events in areas such as Lean Leadership (Daily mgmt., Gemba Walks, Leader Standard Work), value stream mapping, kaizen, A3 thinking, root cause countermeasures (RCCM), visual management, standard work, etc..

  • Facilitate Kaizen events to improve performance across the balanced scorecard and accelerate growth

  • Provide ‘sensei-type’ coaching to leadership to increase Lean Leadership maturity over time.

  • Provide guidance for chartering of projects and kaizen events and developing RCCMs and A3s.

  • Support the team with the optimization of the commercial operations Management System, including continuously innovating PPI Business System management processes and program infrastructure.

  • Identify best practices within or outside the company and serve as a conduit for best-practice sharing

  • Enable a perpetual pipeline of PPI activity and increased employee involvement and PPI Utilization.

  • Participate in reporting processes as part of the Commercial Operations Management System; Champion, track, measure and report on PPI savings and PPI Business System maturity monthly.

  • Partner with Finance personnel to evaluate project savings estimates, validate reported PPI benefits, and ensure accurate accounting of PPI Productivity Savings.

  • Manage the Commercial Operations PPI Business System Resource Skills & Capabilities matrix and related development plans.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in engineering, science, operations or business or equivalent experience Plus a Min. of 8 years’ experience.

  • Project Management Certification required. Kaizen Exp. a Plus.

  • Experience working in the Toyota Production System (TPS), Danaher Business System (DBS), Honeywell Operating System (HOS) or other recognized Lean business system

  • Experience coaching alignment between strategic business plans and lean improvement plans

  • Formal lean training and comprehensive knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools

  • Proven implementation track record delivering resultsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have ability to influence at all levels of the organization

  • Must have the ability to see bigger picture and envision step-change scenarios

  • Must have a collaborative approach

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, time management, decision-making and conflict management skills

  • Must maintain high ethical standards to support a professional business code of conduct

  • Passion for driving business improvement and leading change in a large, complex, global environment

  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills

  • Accomplished written, oral and presentation skills in English

  • Able to travel domestically and internationally; 20 to 30%%

  • Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods

  • Detailed knowledge of quality theory and lean tools and methodologies
