About the Division

The Customer Channels (CCG) serves academic, pharmaceutical, biotech, government and industrial customers by providing them with products manufactured by our company as well as those sourced from other industry-leading suppliers around the world. We represent a single source for virtually every laboratory need – from lab equipment and instruments, to consumables and chemicals, to life science products, safety supplies and science education products – so our customers can focus on their important work.

We are currently looking for a Manager of Purchasing Operations to lead our Purchasing team in Pittsburgh, PA.

What will you do?

  • Manage the daily activities of buyers and purchasing coordinators in all aspects of Procurement, Inventory Management, Supplier Management and Customer Service to meet corporate objectives while driving an improvement in customer experience and allegiance.

  • Own and deliver performance of key performance indicators including inbound lines on-time and complete, end customer fill rate, performance to promise on direct ship, dollar value of past due, purchase order reconciliation rate, inventory value and reduction of dead, dying, and excess inventory.

  • Teach, coach, evaluate and mentor staff of buyers and coordinators.

  • Monitor effectiveness of procedures, systems and staffing to provide optimum service, inventory, and product cost for outside vendor purchased products for resale to end users.

  • Interact with Supply Chain Planning, Warehousing, Transportation, Product Management, Sales, Finance, and Customer Service on cross-functional teams.

  • Work collaboratively with suppliers to improve processes, identify opportunity areas, uncover root causes and drive sustainable corrective actions.

  • Engage in Sales, Inventory and Operation Planning process with internal and external stakeholders to proactively drive improvements to customer satisfaction and working capital.

How will you get here?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in Supply Chain related discipline

  • 3+ years managerial experience of people, processes, and projects, preferably in a high-volume distribution environment, with purchasing, inventory management, or supplier relations management

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Experience with business intelligence tools (Oracle/Cognos) or relational databases (SQL)

  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (PPI, Six Sigma/DMAIC, 8D, et al.)

  • APICS CPIM/CSCP, ISM CPM/CPSM preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability

  • Demonstrated sense of priority and urgency

  • Demonstrated ability to manage with facts and not emotion

  • Strong Communication skills

  • Proven Leadership abilities

  • High level of business acumen

  • Ability to build customer allegiance internally and externally
