What will you do?

  • As part of a global team, the Senior IT Project Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery of critical IT enabled business change, whilst achieving the three pillars of project management.

  • This individual will manage the Systems Development Lifecycle, employing appropriate methodologies (agile / waterfall) based around the projects requirements and will have responsibility for leading the implementation of Thermo Fisher Scientific Project and Program Management best practices.

  • Working closely with both internal and third party teams, this individual will be responsible for producing and managing robust project plans, budgets, statements of work and project reviews as well as ensuring a professional level of project governance is implemented and adhered to.

  • As a Senior IT Project Manager, this role will take responsibility for mentoring and guiding the project management community to reach both business and individual career goals, establishing a highly effective team mentality.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and executes IT enabled business change projects and programs

  • Manages all facets of the SDLC including requirements, design, development, testing, implementation, early life support and support handover in close collaboration with functional managers

  • Creates detailed project plans, identifies resource requirements, manages risks and issues, and controls scope.

  • Manage stakeholders at both a Global and regional level, communicating authoritatively regarding technical and strategic issues, whilst proposing approaches and solutions.

  • Manages the day-to-day operational aspects of multiple or large-scale projects

  • Acts under own impetus, making decisions and setting priorities where appropriate

  • Assists in defining and implementing the Thermo Fisher Scientific Project Management Framework

  • Acts as a Trusted Advisor to business and functional colleagues

  • Educates business colleagues on the Project Management Framework

  • Ensures the Project Management community follows prescribed operating procedures and models, creates a can-do attitude and highly performing team ethos. Creates a continuous improvement mentality across all teams.

  • Acts as a role model leader, mentoring staff to achieve business and individual goals and objectives.

  • Supports the PMO Director in defining departmental performance metrics to ensure continued efficiency

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:


  • Proven experience in Project and Program management

  • Experience with a variety of Project Management Methodologies

  • Proven experience in ERP system implementation, software solutions and development lifecycles

  • Proven experience managing senior stakeholders, ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across multiple functions, countries and levels.

  • Solid experience in process implementation together with a broad understanding of change management

  • Demonstrable business acumen, experience in a supply chain environment is advantageous


  • Excellent working knowledge of industry standard project management methodologies (Prince2, PMI or equivalents)

  • Solid knowledge of ERP systems and ancillary components (e.g. Forms, Interfaces, Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, Customer Relationship Management, Sales Force Automation)

  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.


  • Demonstrated ability to rank risks and prioritize actions whilst handling multiple areas of operations

  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and adapt to changing priorities, able to embrace change and encourages others to do so

  • Proven ability to make decisions based on facts and data

  • Fosters cross functional / departmental / geographical collaboration

  • Customer focused mentality, looks for win-win situations

  • Proven experience in development, and implementation of software solutions.

  • Direct, hands-on experience with automated software and system management tools.

  • Wide degree of technical skills and creativity

  • Educated to Degree level in a Business or IT field, or significant relevant experience

  • Recognized Project Management qualification

  • Be able to communicate fluently in spoken and written English.

  • Proven experience in managing large-scale, complex, multi-country projects and/or experience in managing multiple initiatives simultaneously

  • Demonstrable experience in implementing Project Management best practices

  • Evidence of successful mentoring and guiding colleagues

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including MS Project

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
