As a Network Security Engineer within Immunodiagnostic Division (IDD), you will be part of a small team that has the opportunity to support our customers in hospital and laboratory verticals. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with highly complex, and fully integrated diagnostic automation systems. Within this team your ideas and suggestions for new software, hardware, configurations, and security needs will be valued and carried out to improve and protect the user experience. The team will also be creating innovative tools and procedures for the Phadia Laboratory System which will be used by our Field Service Engineers, Technical Support Teams, and Customers. In this role, there is an opportunity to travel 50% of the time to sites around the US, and possibly globally.

What Will You Do?

  • Implement and execute Network/ System Architecture for current and future Phadia Laboratory Systems, specifically larger commercial and regional laboratories, as well as key accounts that may require a Server/Client configuration and/or system to meet today’s Enterprise solution.

  • Evaluate/propose improvements for computer hardware architecture, system requirements, and networking solutions based on the technical specifications of Phadia Laboratory Systems and security standards and needs.

  • Be part of a small but intense team of specialists, where all ideas, visions, and opinions are valued and assessed for implementation based on need, cost, functionality, and overall value to the business and customers.

  • Continually strive for development within yourself and peers to increase the overall effectiveness of the department, products, and company to drive growth and success upon the goals set within the ImmunoDiagnostics Division (IDD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

  • Standardize implementations while adjusting to customer needs to provide a secure IT environment for the Phadia Laboratory Systems, which should protect the customer and Thermo Fisher Scientific at the same time without compromising the functionality of the system or the way we support the product or customer.

  • The expectation to interact and integrate with many cross functional teams to improve system performance through product support and continued process and procedural improvement.

  • Lead new implementations of mainframe interfaces, remote diagnostics approvals and installations, and Total Laboratory Automation (TLA) system integrations.

  • Provide onsite training and support to Laboratory LIS/IT departments, Biomedical Engineering Technicians (BMET), or advanced operators of the Phadia Laboratory System.

  • Develop and implement standard configurations, and system images to simplify and standardize creation and installation processes with different models of computers, operating systems, and software to support Phadia Laboratory Systems.

  • Execute technical presentations and installations of Phadia LabCommunity, Remote Diagnostics and Utilization Data Reporting System. Work closely with the customer’s IT/LIS personnel, laboratory Director/Manager, Information Security (IS) teams, and Sales Account Executives.

How Will You Get There?

  • Bachelor of Science (IT), Computer Information Systems, or equivalent experience

  • 1-3 years of IT experience, preferably in Medical Devices or the hospital/healthcare environment

  • Proven experience with networking and security, including Cisco firewall devices and/or Juniper firewall devices (preferred)

  • Knowledge of scripting including PowerShell, VBS, and batch files within Windows

  • Strong communication and documentation skills, including good technical presentation skills

  • Ability to operate autonomously and self-start in a fast-paced environment

  • Understanding of systems integration technology, information security, and complete product life cycles, including software/hardware requirements, testing, and release support
