The Security Data Scientist has global responsibility to design, implement, and document data normalization, use cases, alerting, and data enrichment of our security and corporate data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mine, analyze, and normalize data from multiple information sources to drive security requirements for product security, risk management, and incident response

  • Develop statistical data models and algorithms that predict unusual behavior and identify cyber threats

  • Closely coordinate with the threat intelligence team to correlate indicators with security data sets

  • Aggregate data from a variety of datasets, automate data collection and processing

  • Identify and drive implementation of new data sources

  • Coordinate with multiple functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes

  • Work with multiple business lines throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging corporate data to drive business security solutions

  • Update documentation to reflect the current operating environment

  • Design dashboards and metrics to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy

  • Work with other technology experts, ensuring proper integration between systems

  • Interact with Senior Management and provide updates, as necessary.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science

  • 5-7 years of related experience

  • Equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered

  • Strong understanding of statistics, experimental design and data mining methods

  • 3 years of experience supporting a log management system including data normalization, operation, maintenance, custom content creation

  • Experience in data normalization from multiple sources including databases, email, IDS, servers, authentication, and security applications

  • Must be well versed in Splunk technology and be a seasoned Splunk administrator with knowledge of distributed search, index clustering and search head clustering

  • Experience integrating several security technologies into Splunk including IDS/IPS, Security Information Event Management (SIEM), log management, vulnerability assessment/scanning, network analysis/packet sniffer, patch management, antivirus/antimalware

  • Proficient in technical writing and the ability to present complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
