Thermo Fisher Scientific Director, Human Resources in Waltham, Massachusetts
This is a key field leadership role for the East Region of Thermo Fisher’s Specialty Diagnostics Group (SDG). In this role, the HR leader will provide people management and leadership across multiple business units, functions and Divisions within SDG. This role responsible for ensuring alignment of HR processes with business/site strategic operating goals. In addition, this role will provide HR support to the global SDG functional leaders and teams, comprised of Operations, Commercial, Finance, and IT.
This business focused, process and solutions oriented people leader will focus on talent management, change management and employee engagement and positive employee relations to ensure support for the business growth and customer focused strategies and to drive a positive employee culture. He/she will demonstrate leadership in the implementation of HR transformation strategies. This role will work within a matrix organization where stakeholder management leadership skills are critical.
The role will be based in Waltham, Massachusetts (or, within the East Region) to ensure strong alignment and partnership with the SDG Functional leaders and East region business sites. As the business grows, additional client groups may be added to the scope.
Translate the strategic and tactical business plans into operational plans for businesses in our Diagnostics Divisions and environments regulated by the FDA and other governmental regulatory organization.
Lead initiatives that support the talent and change agenda for the business.
Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the people resources of the business.
Provide HR support and coaching on HR policies and processes, complex employee issues, people management, career development and personal leadership.
Manage HR resources and priorities in the region and collaborate across HR business partners and HR Centers of Excellence/”Platforms” to ensure successful implementation of initiatives to support the business. Guide Platform owners in the shaping of HR solutions.
Lead and instill a continuous improvement culture across the region and broader field organization, identifying opportunities to eliminate pain points, streamline processes, and optimize HR talent.
Counsel and/or coach employees and managers regarding employee relations issues including performance management, facilitation of formal/informal complaints to resolution, discipline and/or terminations in line with local culture and the business and legal environment.
Ensure effective talent management including recruitment, assessment and development.
Assist managers in assessing and identifying resources to meet employee learning/training needs and encouragement of employees to continuously develop their skills.
Conduct compensation analysis working with the Compensation COE in regards to compensation needs or analysis.
Keep abreast of industry, market and functional trends and leverage these insights to develop appropriate business unit HR strategies and solutions.
Support COE and large scale HR initiatives (i.e., roll out annual programs, new programs/policies, etc.)
Participate in the broader SDG HR team to drive HR projects and initiatives.
Minimum Education, and Experience and Skills Required:
Bachelor's degree in HR or bachelor’s degree. MBA or related HR advanced degree desired.
8-10 years of direct experience in various aspects of human resources (business partnering staffing, compensation, employee relations and organizational development). HR certification preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of labor law and practices, US labor and employment law
Experience working across a complex organizational matrix is highly desired.
Experience supporting manufacturing operations (or substantial non-exempt and direct labor population) and multiple business functions strongly preferred.
Proven consultative HR experience, with a strong bias for action and results.
Strong process improvement orientation.
Excellent analysis, problem solving, decision making, negotiating and influencing skills.
Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to interface with all levels of the organization including employee relations, coaching, communications and presentations, etc.
Ability to work within a diverse, cross-functional team.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, work independently, multi-task, and follow up on projects and issues
