Job Description

The Director Global Sourcing M echanical Components & Assemblies is responsible for developing and implementing the overall Sourcing Strategy for a global commodity or specific global program for Thermo Fisher Scientific. The individual is chartered with developing a strategy aligned with specific business needs, building a strong functional organization, establishing best practices, negotiating global contracts with preferred suppliers, identifying and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilites:

  • Creates category plans for the assigned categories and/or subcategories of spend (Mechanical components and contract manufacturing) that align with site, division and corporate goals and incorporate the latest market intelligence.

  • May be involved in acquisition proposal development and due diligence. Post-acquisition may be responsible for sourcing integration activities (eg. sourcing synergies).

  • Develops sourcing strategies, selects strategic suppliers and negotiate master agreements that meets the majority of business needs across multiple sites and/or divisions.

  • Develops & communicates sourcing agreements and associated financial commitments.

  • Drives and implements actions to achieve productivity metrics.

  • Liaises with peers and stakeholders to maximize utilization of sourcing strategies, strategic suppliers and agreements, lending assistance and expertise as required to ensure success.

  • Creates and maintains insightful market intelligence that keeps business informed of key trends, provides predictive analytics and risk mitigation suggestions that minimize the likelihood of a negative event (eg, supply disruption, hyperinflation, etc.).

  • Supports make vs. buy analyses by providing the latest insights on cost, service levels, quality, and supply capabilities. Leads any resulting supplier selections and contract negotiations.

  • Reports key sourcing metrics, providing explanation and action plans for exceptions and insights into continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Leads global category management for assigned category to deliver key category performance indicators, including: Savings, supplier rationalization, low-cost region sourcing, risk management, spend under agreement, joint innovation, supplier performance, etc.

  • Develops and drives 3-5 year global strategies focused on identifying and contracting with suppliers that meet key business needs and the aforementioned category management goals.

  • Primary responsibility for identification, qualification and performance management of global strategic supplier base.

  • Aligns team and category management processes to meet business needs and sourcing goals.

  • Acts as the key interface with Thermo Fisher divisions ensuring alignment of strategies, and commitments.

  • Interfaces with senior leaders to obtain sponsorship and resources to implement sourcing strategies that support their key objectives

  • Manages a team of 2-3 direct reports and up to 6 matrix reports (regional and division category leaders or specialists).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years procurement/sourcing experience, with at least 5 years of demonstrated leadership in a in a sourcing or supply chain organization

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or technical field.

  • At least 5 years experience in a large matrixed company environment.

  • Business acumen – knows how the sourcing function and deliverables translate into meaningful business value.

  • Experience working in highly regulated industries.

  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant year over year results.

  • Acts with customers in mind; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.

  • Influences without authority to motivate and manage cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams and drive them to success.

  • Demonstrated experience motivating and developing a team, creating future leaders in the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)

  • CPSM or equivalent

  • Hands-on manufacturing and/or supply chain experience

  • Experience in life sciences, medical device, or pharmaceutical industries

  • Experience in the assigned category of spend and associated marketplace
